CERTIFICATE IV IN MENTORING AND COACHING This course delivers the Australian nationally recognized qualification of Certificate IV in Mentoring and Coaching. It is founded on the Core Competencies and ethics set down by the International Coach Federation (ICF). Students, who complete the training hours of this course, as well as 100 hours of actual coaching required by the ICF, either during or after training, will be eligible to take the final oral exam with ICF and become Internationally accredited. The content of the course is taught according to both Australian standards and the International Coach Federation Core Competencies and Ethical guidelines – a set of criteria set down worldwide as benchmarks in performance and ethical conduct. It combines structured learning with experiential learning. The training materials are thorough and contain the information we believe the student needs, with the practical work being designed to give the student hands-on experience in a safe, controlled environment while they learn and grow. In creating this course this we took units of competency from the business, the hospitality, the community counselling and the government training packages, as we felt they provided a broad base which gave our students the most well-rounded education we could create. We undertook research over as wide a sector of the community as we could before we decided what needed to go into the course. The course is also a journey of self inquiry and self discovery. Students undertake different practices to gain deep awareness of their own limiting patterns and beliefs in order to clear out any potential triggers that may occur with a client going through something the coach has going on. We work on the ancient premise of “Know Thyself” and use tools from NLP, traditional psychology as well as our own unique tools and methods developed by the Insight Foundation. This leads to the focus of the course. Once again, the premise is to become heart-centred, service oriented, self aware, free of limitations and engaging in life with clarity and purpose. Many courses in coaching and similar therapies deal with tools for changing one’s thoughts and attitudes. We take this a step further as we embrace ‘feeling’ and emotional intelligence. We share with students ways to get in touch with their own inner heart’s knowing rather than be swayed by the constant demands and chatter of the ego-mind. Graduates are encouraged to discover what they are passionate about, what they are good at and what they can do with that within a mentoring and coaching role. The assignments are designed to assist the student begin to put together real solutions for a future business or initiative they could potentially take into their current workplace. Each assignment gives the student the opportunity to create a real life initiative where they set up a case study/group project/mentoring initiative that they then undertake in real time with real people, just as they would in their own business. They are supported and mentored in this so they can gain as much learning as possible from the experience. There are so many types of coaching with more and more emerging all the time. The field the graduate would go into depends on his or her life experience, educational experience and natural interests and inclination.
